Would you like something even more personal than the patterns we can weave to fit your table? Your own personal design? It’s possible! You can design your own pattern or have a pattern designed by one of the artists we work with, Karijn Otjes and Coen Wieman. You can also ask a designer or artist to create a pattern especially for you. We will be please to discuss the possibilities.
Some examples as inspiration
Damask for your estate
A couple who own a country estate were looking for a tablecloth and napkins that displayed the estate and family coats of arms. Karijn Otjes designed a new border pattern and central pattern based on these ideas and the motifs in the coats of arms, creating a unique, personal design. Two matching napkins were also created, one displaying the estate coat of arms and the other that of the family. The names of the towns in which family members live were also woven into the borders.
Monogram for wedding anniversary
A couple celebrating their 12.5 year wedding anniversary gave a celebratory dinner with a guided tour around a museum, but let their guests know that they did not want any presents. However, as their friends and family knew how much they like to give dinner parties at their big table at home and how well they can cook, they decided to have a special set of damask woven for the couple. Grandmother and grandson together designed an elegant monogram which we incorporated into a Butterfly tablecloth and napkins. The date of marriage was also woven into the border of the tablecloth. It was a huge surprise, and the couple were deeply moved by the gift that everyone had managed to keep secret for so long.
Damask to match the china
A Dutchman who loves to cook owned a stylish set of china, beautifully decorated with sweet peas. He had long had the wish to buy a matching tablecloth and napkins that also incorporated the monogram that his grandparents had in their damask, as he had the same initials. Coen Wieman reproduced the sweet pea flowers and created a beautiful, stylish design for the tablecloth and napkins based on the motif. It was exactly what the client wanted: ‘This is exactly what I had in mind!’
Damask for the new Pauluskerk in Rotterdam
The new Pauluskerk (St. Paul’s Church) in Rotterdam has a marble, oval table over three metres long and almost one and a half metres wide at the centre. Jan Kees Karelse designed a modern version of Grapevines and Ears of Wheat, based on the exact shape of the table and with no repeat in the pattern. This powerful, unique design was woven for the church at the weaving mill in Ireland.
How much does it cost?
The cost depends on the number of hours that the artist spends working on the new design and, of course, the complexity of the pattern. We have produced unique pieces of damask that cost between € 500 and € 1200 to design. Added to this is the one-off cost of making the card information file, which varies from € 200 for a family coat of arms to about € 500 for a completely new design. Then there is the cost of the damask itself. A tablecloth measuring 300 x 150 cm, for example, costs about € 700. Napkins (50 x 50 cm) woven in the finest quality cost € 69 each.
